Stone surface treatment

Stone surface treatment refers to the use of different processing treatments on the surface of stone under the condition of ensuring its own safety, so as to present different material styles, so as to meet various design needs

Taking marble as an example, its surface treatment is very important, because designers will choose the appropriate surface treatment form according to the types and patterns of stone, the degree of softness and hardness and characteristics, and then present it in the indoor space.
In this way, we can better ensure the effect of the design works, meet the design requirements of safety, functionality and aesthetics, and avoid some design problems.

There are many forms of marble surface treatment. Different surface treatment methods can be extended from the perspectives of anti-skid, stain resistance, easy cleaning and anti-collision.
So, what are the more common stone surface processing methods in the industry?
According to the actual use, it can be roughly divided into the following four categories:
First, the most conventional surface treatment, such as polished surface, matte surface, etc;

Conventional surface treatment
1. Polished surface
The polished surface refers to the finish made by rough grinding, fine grinding and fine grinding of the flat plate with abrasive, and polishing with polishing powder and agent. The surface is as bright as a mirror, brightly colored, with few and small pores.

The general luminosity of stone can reach 80 and 90 degrees. It is characterized by high luminosity and strong reflection of light. It can often fully show the rich and gorgeous colors and natural textures of stone itself.

2. Matt surface

Matte surface refers to that the surface is flat and less polished with resin abrasive. Its luminosity is lower than that of the polished surface, generally about 30-60.

1. Acid wash face

The visual effect of acid washing is achieved by corroding the stone surface with strong acid. The treated stone surface will have small corrosion traces, which looks more simple than the polished surface, and the strong acid will not affect the interior of the stone.

This process is commonly used in marble and limestone, with good anti-skid performance. It is mostly used in toilets, kitchens and roads, and often used to soften the luster of granite.

2. Burning noodles

Burning surface refers to the rough surface finish processed on the stone surface with acetylene and oxygen as fuel, propane and oxygen as fuel, or high-temperature flame generated by liquefied petroleum gas and oxygen as fuel.

Due to the effect of fire, some impurities and components with low melting point on the stone surface can be burned off, so as to form a rough finish on the surface. Therefore, the hand will feel prickly.

The processing of burning surface has certain requirements for the thickness of marble. Generally, the thickness of stone is at least 20mm and there are crystals on the surface, so as to prevent the rupture of stone during processing.

3. Textured surface

The practice of cloth surface is to treat the stone surface into cloth texture, which can retain the texture of stone and imitate the texture of wallpaper, giving people a feeling of wall cloth.

4. Wash face with water

The stone surface is processed and washed by water knife machine, showing an uneven shape, but the surface is smooth without edges and corners, which is similar to the acid washed surface, but the surface color is close to the smooth surface, which is slightly deeper than the acid washed surface and has low water absorption.

5. Litchi noodles

1. Antique face

Antique face is to eliminate the characteristics of pricking hands on the surface of the burning face. After the stone is burned, it is brushed with steel brush for 3-6 times, that is, the antique face.
The antique surface has the concave convex feeling of the burning surface, feels smooth and will not stab the hand. It is a very good surface treatment method. The processing of antique noodles is time-consuming and expensive.

2. Grooved surface

The grooving surface, also known as "grooving" or "wire drawing", is a groove with a certain depth and width on the stone surface. It is usually a straight notch with two-way grooving (5mm) × 5mm) and unidirectional groove; If required, the water jet can also be used to pull the curved notch, but its material cost is high.

3. Mushroom noodles

4. Natural surface

The natural surface, commonly known as the natural fracture surface and cracking surface, is a piece of stone naturally separated from the middle by machinery without any treatment. The surface of this kind of stone is extremely rough and uneven, especially under the irradiation of light.

Natural marble should also consider the relationship between stone weight, thickness, specification and installation process, which is suitable for natural style and rough style space.

5. Sandblasting surface

The sand blasting treatment of natural stone (stone sand blasting surface) is a kind of stone surface processing method similar to glass sanding effect, which uses the abrasive with edges and corners such as emery, quartz sand and river sand to impact the stone surface driven by compressed air (or water).
